Pete O’Rourke has delivered his verdict on Newcastle United’s attempts to sign Axel Tuanzebe on The Football Terrace’s The show of the finished affair.
Newcastle United is the only Premier League team to have signed yet this summer, however, it looks like that might be about to change as they are now would be in pole position to sign Manchester United defender Axel Tuanzebe on a season-long loan.
Steve Bruce loaned Tuanzebe during his tenure at Aston Villa, with the Midlands club as well credited with interest in the central defender, however, it is would have been delighted by Newcastle’s interest in him.
O’Rourke has spoken at length about Tuanzebe and his decision to choose Villa over Newcastle.
“Newcastle, it seems, have edged Aston Villa in pursuit of Tuanzebe which is a surprise to me because Tuanzebe, he has been at Villa before, the club really like him, I think he has loved his spell there too at Villa Park so I would have thought it would have been a straightforward deal for that one.
“But, the final decision is probably up to Man United – where do they think it suits Axel Tuanzebe best; will he have more games at Newcastle? I’m sure he would be a guaranteed number one starter in this Newcastle defense.
Thoughts of the TIF on Tuanzebe who could join Newcastle…
with magpies recently sanctioning the sale of Florian Lejeune and Man United signs Raphael Varane, bringing Tuanzebe to Tyneside seems like a deal that works for everyone involved as the defender could get regular playing time, while Newcastle get a central defender who played against Neymar and Kylian Mbappe in the Champions League.
The Red Devils may be more willing to approve a loan deal at St. James’ Park after seeing how Bruce did wonders with Joe Willock last season, who became a sensation at Newcastle during his loan spell so he scored eight goals in 14 league appearances after rarely presented nationally for Arsenal.
