Community Chest and Lucas Bok Production recently launched a campaign to help families and small business owners affected by the July unrest.

Called the #BetterThanThis campaign, it uses a video clip as a rallying point. Community Chest said in a statement that the goal of the campaign was to strengthen social cohesion, help rebuild Pietermaritzburg and help those affected by the unrest.

The clip captured the hearts of guests at the launch as they were brought back in July. However, sadness and pain quickly turned to hope and celebration as the voices of children and adults singing about their efforts to be “Better than that” filled the air, the organization said.
