AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW / WAGT) – The Golden Harvest Food Bank’s âScary To Be Hungryâ campaign had its most productive year ever this Halloween season.
The food bank launches the campaign each October, with local businesses, neighborhoods, organizations, and volunteers helping to raise food and funds to spur hunger in the community.
This year, the campaign generated more than $ 230,000, exceeding the goal of $ 200,000. The campaign raised more than 50,000 pounds of food. Donations collected are expected to provide more than 690,000 meals.
For 29 years, the campaign has been a way for the community to work closely with the food bank.
One of the challenges facing Golden Harvest is the increase in hunger resulting from the pandemic. According to Feeding America projections, 1 in 7 people in the 11,000-square-mile food bank service area are currently experiencing hunger.
Funds generated by âIt’s Scary To Be Hungryâ will be used to help fill the lack of meals in the food bank service area.
âWe are incredibly lucky and grateful to have such a wonderful network of dedicated people,â said Amy Brietmann, President and CEO of Golden Harvest.
