Gary B. Snyder, 71, a longtime resident of Blairs Mills, died on Monday, November 29, 2021 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

Born October 30, 1950 in Richvale, he was the son of the late Carl J. and the late Dorothy (Burdge) Snyder. He was predeceased by his wife, Vickie D. Snyder, on September 6, 2021.

Gary graduated from Southern Huntingdon High School in 1968. He continued his education at York College where he studied business administration for two years. He served honorably in the Vietnam War, relieved of his duties as sergeant, and received the Army Medal of Honor and ribbons for his rifle and grenade skills.

Gary had a 40 year career with Letterkenny Army Depot until his retirement in 2013. He most recently worked for Empire Kosher until his death. He was a member of Mifflintown VFW Post 5863.

He is survived by one son, Bryan L. Snyder and his fiancée, Karen Wilkinson of Honey Grove; one daughter, Briana Johnson and her fiance, Aaron Nearhood of Mifflintown; four siblings, Patsy Hardy from Mifflintown, Pat Snyder and his wife, Marti from Shade Gap, Robert Snyder and his wife, Connie from Waterloo, and Delores Herzberg and her husband, Kurt from Dover. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Morgen Johnson and Brock Nearhood, both of Mifflintown; one uncle, Hayes Burdge of East Waterford and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Gary enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, hunting, running, and watching Penn State games.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 4 at 2 p.m. at Agett-Lakjer Funeral Home, 16715 Path Valley Road, Spring Run, followed by a memorial service at 3 p.m. with Pastor Kurt Herzberg as officiant. The service will end with military honors.
