the The Ikeoha campaign organization, spearheading Senator Ike Ekweremadu’s 2023 gubernatorial bid, yesterday swore that the sponsored lies, forgeries, intimidation and press releases obtained will not distract him or will deter.
The former Deputy Senate Speaker has been variously attacked by ragtag groups since showing interest in the governorship of Enugu State, with many accusing him of wanting to disrupt zoning of State.
But Ekweremadu and his supporters insisted the Enugu people never had a zoning formula for the governorship.
Campaign outfit chief executive Ogbonna Asogwa in a statement to Enugu alleged that huge sums of public funds were funneled into rallies, press conferences, statements and sponsored publications, all intended to intimidate and to arrest Ekweremadu.
He cited cases of people who had been bullied or incarcerated in the state for associating with the former vice president of the Senate.
“The Ikeoha campaign organization has noted with dismay, but with the utmost trust in God, the desperation of some elements to prevent His Excellency, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, from standing for election as Governor of State of Enugu in 2023.
“Communiqué-for-Cash Corruption Scandal Shakes State Over Non-Existing Zoning, All in Aim of Arresting Senator Ike Ekweremadu; the falsification and manipulation of minutes of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, state caucus meeting, the makers of which have taken more than two years to produce since they boasted.
“We unequivocally state, for the avoidance of doubt, that it is not the business of the Caucus under the PDP Constitution to zone elective offices,” Asogwa said.
However, the campaign organization praised the people of the state “for their determination to resist this reign of terror and anti-democratic tendencies”, while ensuring that Ekweremadu remained unfazed.
In conclusion, they said, “Despite all of this, we want to assure the people of Enugu State that Senator Ike Ekweremadu is undeterred in his attempt to create a new Enugu State that will provide water, jobs, will provide security for all, pay pensions and gratuities, fairly distribute the dividends and opportunities of democracy, ensure massive development of roads and infrastructure, statewide electric coverage , empowering youth and women, and engendering good governance, including non-interference in local government funds.
