Uplifting Blessings encourages local businesses to “lead a good example”

“It’s wonderful to see the community come together to make a difference and have fun together,” says the group’s social media campaign manager.

A local organization that helps vulnerable people is showing its gratitude to the business community in a unique and fun way.

Uplifting Blessings, a non-profit organization that distributes needed items to individuals and charities, has launched a social media campaign.

A national day is chosen each month – this month is Good Example Day, February 26 – and local businesses are encouraged to take a photo of employees demonstrating this theme.

They can post it to the Uplifting Blessings Facebook group or Instagram with the hashtag #DoingGoodWithUpliftingBlessings. After liking the Uplifting Blessings post and tagging someone, they have a chance to win a lunch courtesy of Orillia’s Tops in Pizza.

The photo with the most likes and shares the day before the national holiday chosen for the month wins.

Uplifting Blessings founder Carolyn-Marie Goodwin said it was a way for the organization to shine a light on local businesses, including those who have supported her group, and show appreciation.

“It’s our way of thanking them, having fun with them and bringing attention to their businesses,” she said. “It’s wonderful to see the community come together to make a difference and have fun together.”

It’s especially important to draw attention to local businesses now, Goodwin added.

“We are still feeling the effects of COVID-19 and businesses are struggling. The fact that they can come out of their struggles and help vulnerable people is a big deal,” she said. “We want them to know how much we appreciate their participation and generosity, especially at this time.”

Those interested in participating in the campaign are encouraged to post their photos at the start of the month, making it more likely that posts will get more likes and shares.

For this month, posts through February 25 will be eligible and lunch will be provided the following day.

In March, the focus will be on National Mom and Pop Business Owners Day, which is March 29. Goodwin would like to see businesses highlight a local mom and pop shop in their posts.

Updates will be posted on the Uplifting Blessings Facebook group and on Instagram.
