YSU renames two buildings in honor of Cafaros | News, Sports, Jobs


YOUNGSTOWN – Two buildings on the Youngstown State University campus will be given new names in recognition of a donation from John J. and Janet Cafaro and their daughters, the Honorable Capri Silvestri Cafaro and Renee Lynne Cafaro.

Silvestri Hall at the corner of Lincoln Avenue and Phelps Street, named after Janet Cafaro’s brother, Ronald G. Silvestri, who attended Williamson College of Business Administration at YSU.

YSU will rename the Lincoln Building on the JJ and Janet Cafaro Hall campus. The university will also rename the adjacent Phelps building, the Ronald G. Silvestri Hall. Silvestri, Janet Cafaro’s brother, attended Williamson College of Business Administration at YSU and was a successful local businessman before passing away in 2013.

Cafaro is Founder and Chairman of JJ Cafaro Investment Trust and retired Executive Vice President of Cafaro Co., one of the country’s leading shopping center developers. Ms. Cafaro is President of Silcor Oilfield Services and Parkway Holdings, which owns commercial properties.

The Cafaro have two daughters, former State Senator Capri Cafaro and Renee Cafaro, who is an active member of Community Board 5 in New York.

“, YSU President Jim Tressel spoke about the $ 1.75 million donation. “We are certainly fortunate to have JJ and Jan as friends and advocates.”

“We are honored to participate in Youngstown State University, one of the great job creators in the Youngstown area,” Cafaro said this morning at a campus baptism ceremony.
